DrSilverfish adds: The really tough thing about this gif set, is that Dean spent his childhood waiting for his Dad like this - waiting for him to come get him and Sammy from some crappy school they’d been shoved in for a couple of weeks, waiting for him to come back in one piece after a hunt time after time, worrying sick, but just, holding it together for Sam, and hoping the food would last out, before he had to go out and risk the bruises again and hustle or thieve…
Yes, Dean grew up waiting on a man he loved; and as terrible and as painful as it is, sadly, in his heart, it’s what he expects.
I’ve always thought that the most tragic part of Dean/Cas’ relationship is the fact that Dean, Mr Abandonment Issues, has fallen in love with someone who consistently leaves him. If it wasn’t for the fact that Dean and Cas fit so well together in every way, I’d wonder if Dean didn’t attach himself to Cas because he’s been programmed to respond this way by his childhood filled with abandonment and conditional love.
Cas is also the only person who always comes back, which I think plays a much bigger role here. It actually has the potential to be more depressing, because one day Cas is going to go and not come back and Dean will spend forever waiting on him.
That’s why his look of resignation in the bar in 8.23 was so wrenching, because he planned to do just that, wait, leaving everything unsaid so it wouldn’t be goodbye. Not really.
I’ve always knew you’ll come back

That last 3 frames before the loop. HOLY FUCK.
Do you SEE how young and utterly unprepared for this he is?
This is the boy Mrs Hudson sees, the teen Mycroft can’t help but be frustrated by, and the man inside the machine John would die to protect.
Because Sherlock, in his way, is so very vulnerable, even if he never sees it. Or more, chooses to hide this vulnerability even from himself.
So very unprepared to deal with his own humanity.
His own emotions.
And right here, we can see that vulnerability, that emotion plainly and so obviously.
That last 3 frames?
They break my damn heart.
OW.
